HOW IT ALL STARTED

A true village side, our club's players have been mostly locally born, raised, schooled and working in the village or nearby. Those involved with the club over the years have been drawn from all walks of life and a wide variety of occupations, brought together by their shared passion for the game of football and the comradeship of belonging to what has always been a genuinely local team.

Our opponents over the years have been similar clubs from neighbouring villages and towns, many of which also have histories stretching back to the 19th Century. These long-standing rivalries make for hotly contested league and cup games!

There are no official club records until 1922, but newspaper cuttings can be dated back to 1898. It is possible that Pulborough Football Club - nicknamed 'The Robins' could have been founded before this date.

The earliest newspaper cutting reports that in September 1898 we beat our local rivals Storrington by 13-0!

Home matches were originally played on Soper's Meadows, which is now Stane Street Close. After WW2,  the Recreation Ground was created & has been our home ground ever since.

It is thought that the following years the team only played friendlies until joining the West Sussex Junior League for the 1907/08 season, where we had reasonable success.

1910/11 season was a very poor one, losing 30-0 against Arundel, the worst defeat in our Club?s history.
